O
n a stone slab or table edged with ivy leaves, there are cut lilies, roses and myrtles. Behind them can
be seen a display of roses, presumably a bouquet, but almost in the nature of a bush. A couple of hon-
eysuckles can be glimpsed appearing from among the profusion of rose leaves. There is very little space
around the
fl
owers. This is a “
fl
owers in
fl
owers” motif, and we are entirely in the
fl
owers’ own world.
